St. Bede School Tuition Subsidy Policy |
St. Bede is fully committed to helping Catholic families provide a Catholic education for their children. To that end the parish provides over $150,000 per year in tuition subsidies to parishioners in an effort to keep Catholic school tuition affordable. This is a sizable part of the parish’s annual budget. In an effort to be good stewards of the monies entrusted to our care, the finance committee makes every effort to develop a sustainable budget to meet the needs of the entire parish. In order for that to happen it is essential that families desiring a subsidy from the parish participate in the life of the parish. To this end St. Bede has the following requirements that must be met in order to be eligible for Rate I tuition and a $750/subsidy from the parish: 1. Families must be active, registered members of the parish during the previous year and must remain active and registered throughout the current year. Exceptions will only be made for military or other families who are moving into the parish. 2. Families must regularly participate in the Sunday celebration of Mass. The best way to verify regular attendance is through the use of tithing envelopes. 3. Families are required to submit an annual Time and Talent commitment. These forms are due in the office no later than August 31st each year. 4. Families are required to make an annual Tithing Pledge to support the life of the parish. While the parish has never set a minimum level of financial commitment, families are reminded that the first $750/child of their tax deductable contribution to the parish comes directly back to them in the form of tuition subsidies. These forms are due in the office no later than December 31st each year. Registration for the upcoming school year begins in February. At that time St. Bede is asked to make a financial commitment to the school for families seeking Rate I tuition. In order to make that commitment, the pastor of St. Bede will ask the following questions about each family applying for a parish subsidy: 1. Is the family registered in the parish and do they regularly attend Sunday Mass? 2. Were the Tithing Pledge and Time and Talent commitment submitted on time? 3. Did the family fulfill their Pledge and Commitment from the previous year? If the answer to these questions is yes, the pastor will sign the parish voucher and provide the $750/child subsidy. If the answer to any of these questions is no, the family will have to make additional arrangements with the pastor in order to receive the subsidy. *** Tithing Pledges and Time and Talent Forms will not be accepted from returning families after February 1st. Subsidies cannot be awarded to returning families after May 31st. No Subsidies will be awarded after the beginning of the school year.
