Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Benedict School!
2009-2010
This year's overall theme is "Christ Our Light,Shine In Our Hearts." Each month we will add a phrase from the prayer of St. Francis Assisi as our focus.
Our kindergarten class of 15 is made up of 11 boys and four girls. The children have adjusted well to our all-day-every-day routine. Of course, our most favorite times are recess and lunch!
Our mornings consist of phonics and reading skills, math, Religion, and specials - music and gym class. After lunch and a short rest time, we have "centers," when small groups of children rotate to 4 different, guided activities within the room. One afternoon per week, instead of centers, we go to the library and to the computer lab.
We enjoy hearing stories, singing songs and being with friends.
We will participate in the Book-It program sponsored by Pizza Hut beginning in October. Our monthly goal is to read or to listen to 12 stories each month, October through March. Children will bring home a form each month on which to list stories they have read. When it is returned to the teacher, a certificate for a free personal pizza will be given to them. Let's strive to meet each monthly goal... all 15 of us!
