November 9th

Christ Our Light, Shine in Our Hearts

Dear Parents,

We continue our theme for the year, “Christ Our Light, Shine in Our Hearts”. For the month of November we pray each morning “where there is doubt, let me sow faith”. On Thursday at our school Mass Father talked with the students about putting our faith in action. If those around us are to know that God is real and cares for them, it is often through our being the hands and the heart of Christ to them. What are the signs in our homes and school that we believe in God? Do we talk about God with the children? Are we caring and forgiving as we relate to one another? Do we have visual signs such as crucifixes, statues, or other physical reminders of our faith? Do we go with our families each weekend to pray together with the faith community that we belong to? When there are challenges or disappointments in life, is prayer one of the ways that we deal with those situations? There is much doubt in our world today, but we as Christians can make a huge impact if we live the faith we believe in a real and concrete way. Home is the best place to start.

We extend our sympathy and prayerful support to Melanie, a 7th grader, and her family on the death of her grandmother (her dad’s mother) on October 27.

The good news is that we had a healthy week last week. Absentee figures ranged from 1 to 3 students out as compared to the two-digit numbers from the weeks before. Today we have 6 students who are out because of illness. We will continue to work with you to do everything possible to keep your children healthy. Special thanks for keeping students home when they were sick. I think that really helped to keep from spreading illness to other students and staff. Special thanks also to the teachers who have had lots of make-up work to track and correct while there were so many students out.

Congratulations to Ellie who won the Peace Poster contest for the Lions Club and was recognized at a luncheon today at Mr. Lee’s.

Congratulations also to our students who earned a place on the Honor Roll for the first quarter:

A Honor Roll: 8th graders Alayna, Victoria, and Nathanael

7th grader Greg and 6th graders Nathan and Elizabeth

B Honor Roll: 8th graders Serra and Ellie

7th graders Daniel and Matthew and 6th grader Jackie

We think we have paid all the bills for our magazine sale. Deposits to the bank were $24,045.16. This figure includes the profit from internet sales but not the actual subscription amount which does not pass through the school. It also includes several donations. The costs were $174.00 for the Field House, $13,754.20 for magazine sales, and $513.28 for prizes including $442.00 in cash. The profit so far from our magazine sale is $9,603.68. We will still be receiving a check from any subscriptions ordered through the Magnet program (the booklets you filled out with names and addresses).

Thanks to Annie Bride for sponsoring the 7th annual Spaghetti Dinner last week. Thanks also to Jane Rush and Kim Valentine for organizing the workers and for all those who came to work and donated desserts. The profit was $2347.00 - $2211 for the dinner and $136 for the raffle. Pat Farley, the Director of Religious Education for the parish won the 50/50 raffle.
