Cambridge - Saint Benedict Grade School at 220 North 7th Street, Cambridge, OH 43725 US - October 30th

October 30th

CHRIST OUR LIGHT, SHINE IN OUR HEART

Dear Parents,

Report cards went home on Thursday. Hopefully you have seen them. Most of the students are doing very well. Some need to refocus as we begin this new quarter. I talked with the 5th through 8th graders yesterday about their report cards. All of our students want to do well. We need to keep working together to give them the support and encouragement they need in order to accomplish that. Parent / student/ teacher conferences in a couple weeks will provide an opportunity to share any suggestions or concerns. Please feel free to contact teachers before that if you feel that there is a need.

I am sending home the parent letter today instead of Monday so that you have the calendar and menu to begin November. You will also find enclosed information about our annual auction, and a flyer about a raffle that the 7th and 8th graders are doing for their Washington D.C. trip.

Sister Eloise finished the paper work for the Book Fair and shared that our profit was $1178.00. Thanks again for your support..

In preparation for the School Advisory Council Meeting on Tuesday, we were revisiting figures we have so far for the magazine sale. We had some late orders come in and also checked our on-line sales to find that our sales totaled $25,117. That is $1000 beyond our super goal. We still have bills to pay and will hopefully know our profit by the next parent letter.

Thanks to Jane Rush for organizing the spirit wear order this year. It has been processed and those orders will be coming to you in the next few weeks.

We are grateful to Mrs. Stansbury who has been subbing in the fourth grade. We all hoped that Mrs. Forman would be returning, and Mrs. Stansbury did not plan to complete the year. We are looking for a fourth grade teacher to complete the school year. If you know of anyone who is a certified teacher who may be interested, please have them call the office. Preference will be given to practicing Catholics.

We still have large numbers of students missing due to illness. Yesterday we had 19 out and today there are 11 missing. Some are out just a day or two but others are out for several days. Please continue to keep them home until they have no fever for at least 24 hours without using a fever-reducing drugs. Also keep them home if coughing is constant. They are miserable, and are only spreading germs to other students. Below is some information that was shared at our School Advisory Council Meeting:

Parents can pre-register their children for the H1N1 vaccine: at  HYPERLINK "https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov" https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov OR you can go through the Ohio Department of Heatlh website to pre-register.

When parents pre-register, they can find our school under the following:

School district: Steubenville Diocese

School name: St. Benedict Elem

Parents can find out information about the vaccine on that site as well. (e.g. if your child had the nasal seasonal flumist, they cannot also get the H1N1 nasal vaccine -- it explains it on their website).

A Few Reminders:

First payment for the Washington D.C. trip is due on Monday, November 9, for students and adults who plan to go. The next meeting is Tuesday, November 3, at 6:30 P.M. in the library.

Looking Ahead:

Annual spaghetti dinner fund-raiser sponsored by Annie Bride of the Point is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 11:00A.M. -7:00 P.M.

Larger posters are available in the school office if you would like one.

Parents may pick up their children during the students’ lunch breaks if you wish to take them to the spaghetti dinner. (11:15-12:00 for K-4, 12:00-12:45 for 5-8). Please send a note with your child or call the office so teachers know who is going. We realize there may be overlapping if you have children in both groups.

Students who are not going for spaghetti must pack a lunch.

Help still needed: 9:30-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 4:00-6:00, 5:00-7:00. If you are able to help at any of these times, please call the school or Kim Valentine at 685-6688.

First auction meeting is Wednesday, November 11, at 6:30 to choose a theme and begin intitial planning for this major fund-raiser.

God bless you.
