St. Bernard Parish at 500 Route 22 East, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 US - Christian Community Commission
| Christian Community Commission |
The Church, by definition, is a community. Yet we face many challenges to this sense of community as our parish grows larger and more diverse. More than a social committee, this commission examines the larger issues that affect the parish community, including those of hospitality, inclusion, and service to those with special needs. The St. Bernard Divorced and Separated Support Groups, Picnic and Hospitality Committees, Men's Club and the Moms Group are among the minitries which comprise this Commission.
Some information concerning some of the groups/ministries under the "umbrella" of this committee...

THE MEN'S CLUB - On the second Saturday of each month at 7:30 AM, men of our parish gather in fellowship, to share breakfast, company, spirituality, talks on current events, sports, and parish matters. In recent years, these men have established the Charlie Grill Award, named for a beloved, departed Men's Club member. Through this award, a member of our parish is acknowledged for faithful stewardship and Christian activity. We invite the men of our parish to come by. Just bring your breakfast appetite and the desire to get to know some really great men. By the way - activities end at 9 AM, allowing the opportunity to attend the Saturday morning mass, and to get home in plenty of time for Saturday chores and family activities. For more information you may contact the parish office or Ron Krilla at 908-526-7629, email address ronkrilla@yahoo.com
THE MOM'S GROUP - St. Bernard is a vibrant parish bessed with a large percentage of young families. On Tuesday mornings a group of young Moms (and an occassional Dad or two) gather together in Room D (the "playroom") of the Church building. The "little ones" get to have some fun with other kids, the Moms get to chat, forge friendships, and network together concerning matters of importance to their specific needs. During "good weather months" the group might gather at one of our beautiful, local parks such as Duke Island Park on Old York Road in Bridgewater. Mary Ellen Hardy is the coordinator of this group. No registration is required, but we suggest you give Mary Ellen a call just to make sure of the gathering's location the first time you come. The babies range in age from newborn infants to toddling pre-schoolers. For newer members of the parish, this is a great way to make some new friends. For more information you may call or email us at the parish office or you may contact Mary Ellen Hardy at 908-253-6399 or by e mail at maryellen@usahardy.com.
Hospitality Committee - There are a group of dedicated people under the facilitation of Priscilla Weick who serve the parish as a welcoming, hospitable presence at various parish functions. Through their ministry our guests are served refreshments in a lovely atmosphere appropriate for the occasion. If you have ever attended a function from one of the simple Sunday or "First Wednesday" coffee Socials, to one where we have welcomed our Bishop, you will know that this gracious and hard working team excels in everything from decoration to the quality of what is served, right down to their warm and welcoming manner. They truly do enhance our opportunities for Christian Community here at St. Bernard. If you have a gift for this type of ministry, enjoy entertaining, serving, have a flair for decorating,or would simply like to help in the setting up, or clean up for one of these parish gatherings, please contact Priscilla at e mail address Iacueon@aol.com
