Prayer copied from Bishops website

To all our fellow Catholics, we urge an
intensification of your prayers and fasting
for a new birth of
freedom in ur beloved country. We invite
you to join us in an urgent
prayer for religious liberty.

Almighty God, Father of all nations,
For freedom you have set us free
in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1).
We praise and bless you for the gift
of religious liberty,
the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common
good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect
and promote our liberties;
By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for
ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.
We ask this through the intercession of
Mary Immaculate, our patroness,
and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit,
with whom you live and reign, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer for Priests:

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests;
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields;
for Your tempted priests;
for Your lonely and desolate priests;
for Your young priests;
for Your dying priests;
for the souls of Your priests in Purgatory.

But above all I recommend to You the priests dearest to me;
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
the priests who taught and instructed me;
and all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.
O Jesus, keep them close to Your Heart, and bless them
abundantly in time and in eternity.
                                                                       Amen.

Deacon Roberto Mendoza

      Active in the Hispanic Community..........

In 1994, the Diocese of Gary began a four year theology based program to prepare men and women as Ecclesial Ministers. Since then over 200 men
and women have graduated from the program and received certificates of
completion.

Ecclesial Ministers are defined as lay men and women who have
been prepared professionally for specific roles of service and leadership in
our parishes and our diocese. The four year program includes 24 hours of
theology, spiritual formation and pastoral development.

This program is a prerequisite for the Deacon program.  In September of this year, 2009, a new class will begin on Tuesday evenings for men and women interested in becoming an Ecclesial Minister or a deacon.

Two informational meetings have been scheduled for those wanting to learn more about the program. One session will be held on Monday, January 26th, and another on Wednesday, January 28th. Both begin at 7:00 pm, held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 9292 Broadway in Merrillville.

You need only attend one of the informational meetings. If you would like more
information, contact Anne Verbeke at 219-769-9292, ext 280, or by email at
