Our Capital Campaign Prayer

Good St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus

and spouse of the Virgin Mary,

Our heavenly Father entrusted to your care His Holy Family on

earth. Protect our parish family of St. Edward.

Ask Jesus, whom you faithfully watched over as a child,

to grant us your spirit of generous stewardship,

so that our Capital Campaign might be a success unto God’s glory

and the service of this faith community

‘built of living stones.’ Amen

 ~ PRAY FOR PEACE ~

One minute each night during WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America.

If you would like to participate: Each evening at 9 pm (Eastern), 8 pm (Central), 7 pm (Mountain), 6 pm (Pacific) time, stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens and for peace in the world.

It has been said that if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless.

Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them
the fire of your love.

V. Send forth your Spirit,
and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew
the face of the earth.

Let us pray.
O God,
who did instruct
the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit;
grant that,
by the gift of the same Spirit,
we may be always truly wise,
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Deacon William R. Hathaway

      Graduating from Andrean High School..........

Deacon Roberto Mendoza

      Active in the Hispanic Community..........

In 1994, the Diocese of Gary began a four year theology based program to prepare men and women as Ecclesial Ministers. Since then over 200 men
and women have graduated from the program and received certificates of
completion.

Ecclesial Ministers are defined as lay men and women who have
been prepared professionally for specific roles of service and leadership in
our parishes and our diocese. The four year program includes 24 hours of
theology, spiritual formation and pastoral development.

This program is a prerequisite for the Deacon program.  In September of this year, 2009, a new class will begin on Tuesday evenings for men and women interested in becoming an Ecclesial Minister or a deacon.

Two informational meetings have been scheduled for those wanting to learn more about the program. One session will be held on Monday, January 26th, and another on Wednesday, January 28th. Both begin at 7:00 pm, held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 9292 Broadway in Merrillville.

You need only attend one of the informational meetings. If you would like more
information, contact Anne Verbeke at 219-769-9292, ext 280, or by email at

averbeke@dcgary.org.
