St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 834 S. Orange Blossom Tr., Apopka, FL 32703-6560 US - San Lorenzo Ruiz Prayer Group

San Lorenzo Ruiz Prayer Group

The San Lorenzo Ruiz Prayer Group of St. Francis celebrated its first year anniversary on September 4, 2008. It was formed under the leadership and supervision of Fr. Val De Vera. The Filipino Prayer Group was initially established primarily to show Devotion to San Lorenzo Ruiz De Manila, the 1st Filipino Saint and to Our Lady of Manaoag (Our Lady of the Holy Rosary). Initially, there were only nine (9) Filipino attendees including Fr. Val Devera. The first prayer meeting was held at the Chapel. Through Filipinos’ heartwarming camaraderie and welcoming vibe, to this date, the group has a total of more than fifty (50) members and is continually growing. The prayer meeting is held every Thursday at 7:00 pm at the Chapel of St Francis of Assisi.

Filipinos are caring, loving and respectful. They are very understanding and accommodating. They value camaraderie, debt of gratitude and strong regard for others. They are a happy people; humorous, one would say. They are not afraid of laughing at themselves (although sometimes it gets too much!), their mistakes, even the trials they experience in their lives. The ability to laugh at themselves and their predicament is an important coping mechanism that contributes to emotional balance and a capacity to survive. This characteristic is complemented by flexibility, adaptability, and creativity that are manifested in the ability to adjust to often difficult circumstances and prevailing physical and social environments. For them there is always a "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow". Known for good interpersonal relationship with one another, their good friendship, closeness, and sense of openness often times become the core of their values. The gathering for them is like one big happy family living under the guidance of a leader - none other than our Lord Jesus Christ.
