If the parents of the child live outside of our parish boundaries, then they must obtain permission from the Catholic Church where they are currently registered to have their child baptized at our parish. Requirements for Sponsors
A sponsor must be:
- A baptized Catholic who has received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion and is practicing the Catholic Faith. A validly baptized and believing Christian from a separated church may not be a Catholic sponsor, but may act as a Christian witness as long as there is also a Catholic Godparent.
- At least 16 years of age and mature enough to undertake the responsibility.
- Married in the Catholic Church and in good standing under Canon Law and not in an irregular marrieage (an irregular marriage is any marriage not performed or blessed by a Catholic priest or deacon). Catholics currently living in a marriage not considered valid by the Catholic Church or cohabitating are excluded from being a sponsor.
- Someone other than the parents or grandparents of the child.
Baptismal Catechumenate
Adult candidates for Baptism must follow the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is a process wherein persons are led to full initiation through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. This process is intended for those children and adults, not baptized as infants, who have attained the age of reason as an adult seeking initiation on their own initiative or as a child either by the direction of their parents or guardians or with parental permission. Also, this process is meant for those baptized in other faiths who want to convert to Catholicism.
RCIA meets on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in English and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Spanish.Adult candidates for Baptism must follow the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
