St. John the Evangelist Faith Formation at 546 St. John's Place, Riverhead, NY 11901 US - Home

Welcome to Our Website
Faith formation is a life long process. At Baptism we become members of the Church and are challenged to live out our Baptismal promises throughout our life. This means we are to be good stewards of the gifts that God has given us, including our children. In our catechetical program, we believe the most important thing we can do is to introduce the children to Jesus and help them develop a relationship with Jesus. We recognize the important role the parents must play in this and try to work as partners with the family, the "domestic church." During Lent we have been preparing for Jesus' Passion and Death. All Catholic Christians are called to pray, do penance and give alms. Each of us is to choose our own way to accomplish these Lenten practices, but they should involve some aspect of sacrifice. As we continue on our Lenten journey, perhaps we can become more intentional about these practices. Every Monday morning at 11 AM, we have been gathering in the Church for Morning Prayer. This is part of the Liturgy of Hours that is said regularly by professed religious men and women. By praying these prayers, we have been joining our voices with those worldwide Christians who are also marking Lenten time this way. Lent is also a special time for those preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. This year, St. John's has three young people who will be fully initiated into our faith community. Let us continue to remember them and their family and pray that they will be open to the promptings of the Spirit throughout their lives.
