Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have to belong to St. Joseph Parish to attend St. Joseph Catholic School? We accept students from other parishes and non-Catholics alike. There is a difference in tuition for non-parishioners.
What are the age requirements and acceptance policy to enter St. Joseph Catholic School? St. Joseph Catholic School accepts any student up to Grade Eight into our school regardless of race or religious belief. Students entering into Grade Two and up are accepted on a trial basis for one year. Before being accepted, a transfer student shall be screened by means of an informal evaluation for proper grade placement.
- Preschool students: 3 yrs old by September 1.
- PreKindergarten students: 4 yrs old by September 1.
- Kindergarten students: 5 yrs old by September 1.
- First grade students: 6 yrs old by September 1.
Bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, baptism certificate, and immunization record at the time of registration. All students are required to meet the State of Michigan immunization requirements. A health appraisal form signed by your doctor is required prior to the first day of school.
What is the tuition at St. JosephCatholicSchool? No tuition increase will be made for the 2009-2010 school year. Please refer to the separate 2009-2010 Tuition Program paper.
Is there any tuition assistance available? There are many grant and scholarship programs available to qualifying families. All families can use the SCRIP program to earn a tuition rebate for the upcoming school year. Refer to the Tuition Assistance Programs and Payment Plans brochure for more information. .
What options do I have for paying tuition? St. Joseph Catholic School has chosen the SMART Tuition Collection Program. This program allows you to choose from several payment plan options. Please refer to the separate 2009-2010 Tuition Program paper for more information.

What are the school hours? For Kindergarten through grade 8 – the first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Students are to be in their classroom by this time. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and dismiss at 3:20 p.m. Our Kindergarten is a full-day program five days a week.
For Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) – classes meet on Monday through Friday, with a start time of 12:45 p.m. and dismissal at 3:15 p.m. Parents also have the choice of sending their child on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the same time, vs. attending on Monday through Friday.
For Preschool (3 year olds) - classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a start time of 8:30 a.m. and dismissal at 11:00 a.m.
Do the students wear uniforms? Students in Kindergarten through grade 8 wear uniforms. Please refer to the
School Handbook for the dress code policy.
What bus services are available? Students who live within the Mason Consolidated school district are transported on the Mason busses at no extra charge. St. Joseph Catholic School does offer bus transportation to the Temperance and Point Place areas. Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten parents must provide their own transportation. There is an additional fee for the St. Joseph Catholic School bus. The current bus run picks up students south of Erie Road, north of Alexis Road, east of Douglas Road, and west of Point Place. However, this bus run is subject to change depending on students' transportation needs.

What kinds of advanced technology do you offer? The Phonic Ear surround sound amplification system is available in all classrooms. This system provides students at St. Joseph Catholic School with an enhanced learning environment by blocking out distractive noises and distributing the teacher’s voice clearly to every student.
The school has a computer lab with upgraded computers and software. We follow the TechWorks Curriculum Program which covers Keyboarding, Multimedia, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Paint, Electronic Presentations, Information Systems, and the Internet. We also have an expanded science lab that includes microscopes, prepared slides, thermometers, beakers, scales, hot plates, test tubes, models, rockets, rock/mineral collections, supplies to explore electricity, and more.
Another unique feature is the ActivBoard technology which is installed in several of the upper and lower grade classrooms. ActivBoards are interactive whiteboards that work in conjunction with a computer and LCD projector to enable teachers to project information from their computer onto a screen to enhance classroom learning for students. Typically only available at the high-school level, St. Joseph Catholic School considers itself very fortunate to be able to offer ActivBoards which are geared to elementary level education to their students.
What sports do you offer? Soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, cheerleading, and a running club. Sports facilities feature a regulation size gymnasium and outdoor athletic fields on a 20-acre campus. School alumni can participate in athletic programs if they choose to attend a Catholic high school in the Metro Toledo area.
Is there a hot lunch program? We offer a daily hot lunch program that provides well-balanced, nutritional, and kid-pleasing meals. A menu is sent home and lunches must be ordered ahead by the month. St. Joseph Catholic School does not participate in a government subsidized hot lunch program.
