Speaking at a press conference in Rome, a Syrian Catholic archbishop told reporters that persecution and discrimination suffered by Iraqi Christians is ultimately rooted not in governmental actions but in a culture inspired by the Qu’ran. Archbishop Jules Mikhael Al-Jamil, the auxiliary bishop of Antioch, added that he opposed the creation of a Christian enclave around Nineveh and that “the Church must be the presence of Christ in the country. If we Christians flee when the situation is difficult, then we don't give that necessary witness. And if the generations are uprooted, then they will never return.”
