Its’ a simple concept: love God with your whole being and put that love into practice. How is God calling you to love? -- Encouraging vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life is done by: praying as a family, participating in the liturgies of the Church (especially on Sundays), speaking positively about those who serve in ministry, and encouraging children at a very young age to consider these important ministries. -- In the next seven years we will see a great decline in the number of active priests in the Diocese of Sioux City due to retirements and small number of ordinations. Why is there such a big decline? Some reasons include lower birth rates (due to need for small families, abortion, and birth control), loss of Catholic schools, loss of sisters in Catholic schools, declining use of the Sacraments including Eucharist and Reconciliation, and less interest in sacred ministry. We do need to increase our efforts to encourage our boys to become priests and deacons. We need to increase our efforts to encourage more people to become lay ministers in the Church.
