WHY ST. JUDE PRESCHOOL?

These parents have just the answer!

“Six years ago, we were like so many other young families, we both worked full time jobs and our children were in daycare.  Yet it was time to register our 3-year-old for preschool – but where?

My husband and I both wanted religion to be a significant part of our child’s daily routine, along with the best possible education provided by caring, top-notch, dedicated teachers.  We also wanted our daughter to have fun and thoroughly enjoy these wonderful years of her life.  This was, after all, preschool.

We live in Jenison, but we both worked on the north end of town and this was where our daycare was located.  As we searched for the right pre-school, a family friend suggested St. Jude’s program.  After a few phone calls, we registered our daughter in the 3 year old program.  It was one of the best decisions we have ever made as parents!

Up until now, we have been our child’s teachers – this is not a role easily given up.  At St. Jude’s preschool, we don’t lose that role, but rather we expand the teaching circle.  We are informed on a daily basis what will occur in the classroom and what is coming up.  We can discuss with our child what is happening in the classroom and reinforce it at home.  We don’t lose out on that part of her day.

And, maybe most importantly, our child has learned how to be a student.  Through the various activities, routine and free play, she started becoming more independent, more responsible and more willing to try new things.  She soon realized that she was part of a group that required sharing and waiting but also generated new friendships.  These developments made the transition to kindergarten so easy.

When it comes to incorporating religious concepts so that a 3 or 4 year old can understand them, we offer two examples that say it all.  One morning as we drove to school, there was an incredibly beautiful sunrise.  Our child said, “Mom, look at the pretty picture God painted for us today.”  At Mass a couple weeks after Easter last year, as we knelt during the Eucharistic prayer, when the priest said, “Do this in remembrance of me, “ our daughter leaned over and stated, ”That’s what Jesus said at the Last Supper.”  She had picked this up from preschool when they had bread and grape juice for snack and talked about Holy Thursday.

We, like every other parent, want what’s best for our children.  Without question, St. Jude’s Preschool program is the best experience we could possibly give.

The following note is from a preschooler named Jenna

Dear Mrs. Doyle,

I am going to miss you. I would like to visit you again so I will come back and visit you. Thank you for being the best teacher I have ever had. I would like it if you would come over to my house and have lunch with us.

Some things I remember from preschool are you reading us books like Groundhog Book, Caps for Sale, and Your Feelings Book. I liked getting to watch movies at rest time like Big Red and Mr. Quiggly. I liked what we had for snacks like Cheetos and pretzels. I will always remember our playhouse, our building center, our discovery tale and our drawing table. I liked when we took a rest. I liked making our Feelings Book and our bunny puppet and our kite. And I liked our birdfeeders and I liked our classroom. I like how we had paint on the walls and I liked our Hat Day. I hope you like your present.

Love,

Jenna
