St. Louise de Marillac at 320 McMurray Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241-1616 US - Studying for Priesthood

Studying for Priesthood

St. Louise currently has three men studying for the priesthood, Charlie Cortinovis, Mike Sedor and Joe Gregula. These men need our prayers and encouragement as they are studying and discerning their calling for the priesthood. A brief summary of their current studies along with their mailing address is below.The parish encourages you to write these faith filled men a note of encouragement and support. We will periodically update you on their progress at seminary. You can contact Tom Krulikowski through the parish office for more information. {First class postage to Rome is $0.94}

Charlie Cortinovis is in his last year of study at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. He is currently studying dogmatic  theology and inter-religious dialogue. Charlie was ordained a deacon in Rome on October 9, 2008. He will be ordained to the priesthood on June 20, 2009 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. He will be celebrating a Mass of Thanksgiving here at St. Louise on Sunday, June 28th with a reception to follow. Charlie will serve as a priest in the Washington DC Diocese.

Michael Sedor is in his first year of theological studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. The seminarians in Rome take their classes at the Gregorian University. One of the major challenges for all of the seminarians who go to Rome is learning the Italian language since most of their courses are taught in Italian. The academic year begins later in Rome than it does in the United States, so they are only about midway through their first semester. On January 11,2009, Michael will be receiving the Ministry of Lector at the North American College. He will receive the Ministry of Acolyte in March 2010.

Joe Gregula is in his first year of pre-theology here at Saint Paul Seminary.  The pre-theology program is a two-year program.  During these years, the pre-theologians take Philosophy courses at DuquesneUniversity and also take house classes here at the seminary.  A seminarian’s years at Saint Paul’s are also very important because this is where the seminarian discerns if God is truly calling him to be a priest.  The seminarians are finishing up their first semester and begin final exams on December 11.  Their Christmas break begins on December 19.  When they return in January, all of the seminarians from Saint Paul Seminary will be going on retreat at the PaulVIPastoralCenter in Wheeling, West Virginia, for four days before beginning the next semester at DuquesneUniversity.

Dear Fellow Members of St. Louise Parish,
I just wanted to take a moment to say “thank you” for the generous prayers and support that you have been offering on my behalf. It really means a lot to me to have received so many wonderful letters and cards from you letting me know that I am in your thoughts and prayers. I am truly humbled and thankful for your support of my vocation.
I am sorry that I cannot reply to each of your letters individually, but the schedule of life here at the North American College in Rome keeps me much too busy. I hope that this note will serve to convey my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. I also wanted to let you know that not only are you always in my daily prayers, but when I recently had a chance to visit the tomb of St. Louise de Marillac, I made sure to offer a prayer of thanksgiving for all of you.

Please continue to keep me in your prayers. Looking forward to seeing you this summer. Thank you!
In Christ,
Michael Sedor, Seminarian
