St. Louise de Marillac at 320 McMurray Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241-1616 US - Pastoral Council

Pastoral Council

St. Louise Pastoral Council

PASTORAL COUNCIL CORNER
Two weeks ago our Parish Mission and Vision Statements were distributed to all in the parish as an insert in the weekly bulletin. Your Pastoral Council developed these documents based on what you, our fellow parishioners, told us in the parish-wide survey.

The Vision Statement contains long term goals that embody what you want our parish working towards in the future. Within these long term goals are short term objectives that we feel will help us achieve these goals. At our most recent Pastoral Council meeting we reviewed these objectives and have decided to focus on two that have received keen
interest from the parish.

Service to others has always been a prominent part of our St. Louise community. With this in mind, we are exploring ideas for parish mission projects within our local area. One possible mission that has been identified by Catholic Charities is to become a Mentor Parish for Refugee families. A Mentor Parish creates a league of volunteers who help refugees get acclimated by assisting them in registering children in school, navigate around grocery stores, get to doctor appointments, etc .

The next idea is part of the goal to increase participation in the Mass and our parish community. You suggested to Council that we form a Welcoming Committee that will help new members feel more connected to the St. Louise community. Upon registering in the
parish, a Welcoming Committee member would contact and greet the new members. Then either on an individual basis or at a quarterly group reception a welcome basket filled with items that inform new families about our parish and a homemade food treat would be given
to them.

For these projects to work we need the help of people in the parish. When working together, we can do great things and make a difference in lives. Pastoral Council stands ready to offer guidance and assistance.

Please contact Pastoral Council Chairperson Tom Krulikowski (email link) or call the parish office if you have an interest in getting involved in either of these ministries or to share a comment or suggestion.
