Our Gospel Value for the 2009-10 school year is: HOPE
St. Louise de Marillac School at 310 McMurray Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241-1616 US - Service Projects
Service Projects
Following the overwhelming collection from our school families, we received this in a note from the staff at The Holy Family Institute:
..... and Tara just finished hanging up 81 coats . .. we had big ones and little ones and Steeler ones and blue ones and pink ones and light ones and heavy ones, there were men's coats and women's coats and lots and lots of coats for little children ... we found snow pants and hats and scarves, socks and pajamas and little shoes ...there were several brand new coats and even a coat with speakers in the hood (that was quickly claimed by one of the therapists to give to a young man at the main building who will be the envy of his housemates). It was like Christmas!
Thank you .. to you and to the little elves of St. Louise.
Once again, you made magic ...
Service Projects 2009-2010
As we begin our fifth year of school wide service projects we hope that you take a minute to think about the direct impact that you have made on a great number of families through your donations. With a pair of shoes, packet of diapers, or a few spare dollars that may have meant little effort or sacrifice on your part...you have literally gifted hope to some individuals that did not know if they would have enough Mac-n-cheese to feed a family; much less buy a child new shoes for the school year. We will continue our practice of contributing to organizations where 100% of any donation received is given directly to the individuals that are in need.
Each of our children is blessed in so many ways and we want to continue to help others that are experiencing a difficult time.
This year we will be expanding the service projects program so that every family, at their own discretion, has the opportunity to participate in various out-of school, hands-on projects. We will send home updates on a regular basis letting each family know where there are volunteer opportunities in the community and surrounding areas. However, we are ever-mindful that St. Louise de Marillac School is an academic institution, and with respect for the faculty, we do not disrupt instructional time for the students.
Our schedule for the year is as follows:
September 23: Adopt a Soldier Collection
(Details will be in the first family folder)
October 23: Holy Family Institute
(Start saving your gently used clothing)
November 20: Mooncrest Food Basket Collection
Junior High Turkey Bowl Weekend
December 3: Blanket Monday
(McDonalds Gift Certificate Collection)
January 31: Angel Fund Spaghetti Dinner
February 17: Operation Soup Bowl Lenten Collection
May 12: Heart and Sole Shoe Collection
