St. Luke Catholic School at 1290 Nachreiner Avenue, Plain, WI 53577 US - October 8, 2009 Parent Letter

October 8, 2009 Parent Letter

October 8, 2009

Dear Parent,

It sounds like we may need snow shovels this weekend! Where did our fall go? We turned the heat on for a while in school this week. Once the building gets warm it can get quite warm. However temperatures in large buildings are not always consistent. Our big windows are wonderful for light, and air, but sun or wind can make a difference in the temperature depending on what side of the building you are in. It’s a good idea for students to keep a sweatshirt or sweater here so they can adjust accordingly and be comfortable.

Grades 3-8 will continue ITBS tests next week. You can help by having them rested, having them eat breakfast and coming in a good frame of mind to do well.

Children’s Choir has a joint practice with the adult choir, this Monday, October 12, at 6:30. This practice will only be about 45 minutes, but it is important for the children to be there. We have learned a new song and it will be the first time they will hear the adult part with their part. If you have a transportation problem give me a call and I will see what I can do to help out. Thanks!

I am looking for greeters for the Golden Alumni mass, for October 17This is something that the
K-3rd grade students seem to do very well and people just love to see those little guys welcoming everyone. If your child could be available to help, please call, send a note or email. Thanks again!

The Tombstone pizza and Frozen Foods sale has been extended!!! We can take orders until, and including, Monday, October 12I know I sound like a broken record but sales are down and activity, sports and field trip expenses are up. Thank you to those of you who have turned in orders and made donations. Please extend the opportunity to purchase items to your family and friends, or make a donation, by Monday. Thanks so much for your support.

The Home & School Spaghetti Supper committee is looking for empty wine bottles to create ambiance at the spaghetti supper. We don’t want you to feel obligated to empty bottles, and it is not necessary to empty several in one night, but if you have some you could share with them I’m sure they would appreciate it. If you would like to get them back it would be best to put your name on the bottom with a piece of masking tape.

Boys Basketball grades 4th – 6th. We are still in need of an adult to coach, or supervise. Justin Gibson has offered to coach but an adult is needed to work with him and be at practices. If you would prefer to actually coach, or know someone we should approach to coach, give me a call. We need to get some adults involved so we can have a team for the 4th – 6th boys. Practices for all teams are scheduled to begin early November.

Students in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th will need to bring their recorders in for music ASAP. If your child does not have a recorder, or has broken or misplaced the recorder they had, we have some that can be purchased for $5.00 each.

Today at mass the 4th grade students shared many facts about the rosary and the mysteries of the rosary. October is the month of the rosary. We will be saying the rosary as a school family sometime during the month of October and I asked the kids to encourage you to say the rosary as a family during this month. If you would like more information about the rosary or a wealth of other information about the Catholic faith, check out the following links:

We're sending a flyer about the Catholic Schools Diocesan-Wide Congress on October 17 at the Bishop O’Connor center. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Ms. Marklein and I will be attending after the second grade reconciliation retreat.

We are also sending a flyer from Fr. Jason Hessling who is stationed in Iraq. Once again we will be collecting items to send to Fr. Jason to distribute among the soldiers there. The flyer is very self-explanatory. We can start collecting items at any time. I would like to send a box out before Thanksgiving. I will keep you posted as to the exact date.

Last but certainly not least is Grandparent’s Day which will be celebrated next Friday. If you have not turned your slips in indicating a how many will be attending please do so, it really helps with the planning. If you need adopted grandparents and would like our help, please let us know that also. I am in need of pumpkins, gourds, corn, anything that will help us bring the fall theme into the dining room. I would like them by Wednesday, Thursday morning at the latest. If you can help with this let me know. If you find some things last minute, just bring them in, I’m sure we will be happy to have them.

Home & School minutes are also going home today. Second grade is also getting an invitation to the Reconciliation Retreat next Saturday the 16th for the second grade students.

Have a great weekend!
Cindy
