St. Mark Catholic Church at 1687 Hawkinsville Highway, Eastman, GA 31023 US - Learn more about St Mark Eastman

Learn more about St Mark Eastman

The Catholic Church began ministry in this area of South Georgia in 1967.  It was then that the first resident Catholic Priest began ministry to Telfair, Wheeler, and Jeff Davis counties.  Jan 11, 1981, Holy Redeemer Church in McRae was dedicated.  It was there that the residents of Dodge County were attending Mass.  December 3, 1989, the first Sunday Mass celebrated in Dodge County was said in the rented Church on the Dublin Road in Eastman.  In 1990, Bishop Raymond Lessard approved the name of St Mark for the newly established Eucharistic community in Dodge County as a mission of Holy Redeemer Church in McRae.  That same year, Bishop Lessard approved the establishment of a building fund for St Mark.  In 1991, land was aquired in Dodge County on US Highway 341 near Eastman for the future construction for St Mark Church structure.  It was in 1993 that we broke ground for a new Church on the site recently purchased.  Our new Church building was dedicated in 1994 and on April 25, 2001, St Mark Catholic Church officially became a Parish as decreed by Bishop J Kevin Boland.
