Evangelization
Membership in a Small base community is an indication that a person desires to grow in the love of God. Small Base Community members have a desire not simply to be a discussion group or even a Bible study group. There is a desire to be church-community-the people of God who not only study and discuss Scripture but also pray together, share faith and life together, support, challenge, and love each other, and find in each other and in God the strength and courage to reach out in loving service to others. The Small Base effects some to the very basic needs in each ones life. These needs are nourished by feeling a sense of belonging and everyday caring for each person. A way to slow down, to notice the everyday and to reflect on God's presence. A way to value ordinary gifts (and weaknesses) and to find confidence to minister with these gifts. A way to deepen a prayerful attitude towards life. A way to connect religion and life. A means to question the basic assumptions of our culture and find support in being "different". Here at St. Mary's we have Small Base Communities. Members have developed positive attitudes about themselves, other people, the world and God as the foundation on which community is built. Members participate in personal reflection and small group faith sharing centered on Scripture readings. These meetings average about twice a month. Confidentiality must be respected at all times, conversations which take place during the faith-sharing meetings are to be reverenced and respected by all members. Anyone who would like to join a Faith Sharing Group, you are most welcome to join at any time. For more information, please call the rectory at 764-0239.
