Cantor/Musician: Good congregational singing is the goal of our parish. To help us achieve this goal we need musicians to lead and support the community. Song leading is one part of a cantor's job, but the role of the psalmist is the most important element of the cantor's functions. A cantor should have a pleasant voice, an interest in liturgy, a willingness to learn the psalms and acclamations, the ability to teach new music, and a commitment to practice prior to leading the assembly. Cantors are scheduled to serve every four or five weeks, depending on the number of volunteers. At various times during the liturgical year, our parish will call for volunteers for choral singing. This short-term commitment will involve weekly practices from three to ten weeks. St. Mary's is always seeking talented instrumentalists (organ, piano, violin, flute, trumpet, guitar, etc.) who are willing to study, learn, and practice liturgical music and participate in special liturgical occasions.
