St. Mary's Parish at 406 E. Savidge Street, Spring Lake, MI 49456-1799 US - Mary Memorial Garden
Dedication of the Mary Memorial Garden took place on Saturday, September 27 following the 4:30 PM Mass. You may view a copy of the dedication program here.
For those who were unable to attend, you may find interesting that the custom of a Mary Garden began in medieval times. Mary Gardens are intended to combine nature and tradition to pay tribute to Mary and to illustrate the Church’s teachings about her. If you were to do a “Google” search for “Mary Garden,” you will find numerous websites with listings of plants and flowers and legends of their significance to Mary. For instance, some common flowers with Mary significance are: Bleeding Heart (Mary’s Heart), Daffodil (Mary’s Star), Forget-Me-Not (Mary’s Eyes), and Lily (Symbol of Purity and Grace). A brochure was prepared for the dedication which contains additional information. Copies are available at the church entrances.
