Catholic Community of Windsor Locks - St. Mary & St. Robert Bellarmine Churches at 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096 US - Curriculum & Class Schedule

Curriculum & Class Schedule

Scripture is at the core of every lesson in all grades.

GRADE 2: A sacramental program centered on teaching children and their families about our loving God and the gift of Himself in the sacraments.

GRADES 1, 3, 4, 5, & 6: A complete, scripture-based religious education program that includes the teachings of the Catholic Church organized around the four pillars of the Catechism (what Catholics believe, how Catholics worship, how Catholics live, and how we pray).

GRADE 7: This program develops the skills needed to answer and to live the following: What difference does Faith make in my life? The Liturgy and Morality section covers the life of the Church and helps teens to embrace the moral demands of the Gospel. The Church history and scripture unit provides a foundation to understand and appreciate our Faith.

GRADES 8 & 9: Preparation for the celebration of the Rite of Confirmation. Through prayer, scripture, and doctrinal studies candidates are prepared for the reception of this sacrament early in Grade 10.

CLASS SCHEDULE BY GRADE All Religious Education (CCD) classes are held at St. Mary Parish Center at 45 Church Street.

KINDERGARTEN: Attendance at Kindergarten level CCD classes is not required for admission to Grade 1. Classes are held on two Sundays each month from 10:00-11:00 a.m. (the same Sundays that Grade 2 classes are scheduled). Registrations for about 20 children are accepted on a first come-first served basis.

GRADES 1,3,4, & 5: Classes are held on Tuesday OR Wednesday (parent's choice of day) from 4:15-5:15 p.m.

GRADE 2 (FIRST COMMUNION): Classes are held two Sundays per month (see calendar for dates). Each month one Sunday class will be at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10:00 especially for Grade 2 students and their families. The second class each month is held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Parents/guardians also attend a class while their children are at class. Makeup classes are available for students unable to attend Sunday class due to illness.

GRADES 6 & 7 Religious Education classes are held on Monday afternoons right after school from 2:30-3:30 p.m. If there is an ongoing conflict (academic activities, sports commitments) students may request a Grade 6 or 7 class on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:00 p.m.. Space is limited in these classes. Siblings of 8th and 9th Grade students who attend Monday night classes may also request placement in Monday evening classes.

GRADES 8 & 9: Classes for Grades 8 & 9 meet on Monday evenings at 7:00-8:00 p.m. Since these two years are required for Confirmation, attendence and participation are essential. Excessive absences must be made up during the summer.

GRADE 10 (CONFIRMATION): Students who have completed the curriculum over a period of two years in Grades 8 & 9 and have successfully passed a test on their Catholic Faith may attend Confirmation preparation classes, which are usually held on one Tuesday each month in May, September, and October.
