St. Matthew Parish Covenant |
St. Matthew’s Parish Covenant September 2009 In our continuing effort to grow an Engaged Church, a critical component is to answer the question, “what is expected of me?” whether I am a parish leader, clergy, staff, or parishioner. What follows is the result of a parish wide survey in 2008 on expectations that we now form into our parish covenant with each other; a covenant founded on love set forth before God! On September 12/13 parishioners responded to these expectations by signing covenant cards. They brought the signed covenant commitment cards forward during Mass and placed them in the Ark of the Covenant at the altar. EXPECTATIONS: Clergy, Staff and Leadership will: Teach the Catholic Faith We will seek out opportunities to teach our Catholic faith in homilies, written, spoken and online communications, faith formation and adult course offerings and prayer, devotional and liturgical gatherings. Inspire Spirituality We will seek out creative and moving ways to inspire spirituality in homilies, written, spoken and online communications, faith formation and adult course offerings, and prayer, devotional and liturgical gatherings. Cultivate an open and welcoming atmosphere We will be cordial and hospitable to all we meet (Christ-like). We will eagerly strive to build a strong, engaged faith community where everyone feels they belong. “Be Nice!” Be good stewards of parishioners’ gifts of time, talent, and treasure We will always be cognizant of and thankful for the sacrifice of LOVE from our parishioners of their time, talent and treasure. We will seek out opportunities for parishioners to share their God-given gifts and promise to be good stewards of these gifts always with an “Attitude of Gratitude.” Parishioners will: Attend and participate in Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation I will regularly attend and fully participate in Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation. I recognize that our Eucharistic Celebrations are the foundation of our Faith and the most powerful builder of community and my personal relationship with our Lord. Grow in Faith and Spirituality I will actively seek out opportunities to grow in my faith and spirituality. I will strive to become more Christ-like in my daily life. Be welcoming to fellow parishioners and the world at large I will be cordial and hospitable to all I meet (Christ-like). I will extend this spirit of welcoming and hospitality to all of my environments. Share time, talent and treasure I will continue to share my God-given gifts of time, talent and treasure out of LOVE for God and each other and /or will explore new ways to use my time and talents in service to God and His people. I recognize we have been given these gifts by God for God and His people. Connected in Christ! Moved by the Spirit!
