Thoughts from the Narrow Way

The Holy Spirit given to me in baptism was ‘activated’, in a sense, at my Confirmation. However, this power is limited in me, but only to the extent that I choose to limit it or am ignorant of it. When Jesus ascended into heaven, He issued the Great Commission: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.” (Mk 16: 15) This event was far more than historical; it is an ongoing summons to all generations of believers! If I am not experiencing this power in my walk with Christ, perhaps I should ask myself, “Why?” The Holy Spirit is always ready to be ‘activated’, so to speak, at my invitation; “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you …” Jesus told His disciples (Acts 1: 8). Therefore, let me ask Him to fall upon me as He did on the disciples on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Let me be baptized in the Holy Spirit! Let me be immersed in Him, inundated with Him, set on fire with the fire of His love! Let it be said of me what was said of the disciples of our Lord: “…the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.” (Mk 16: 20)

May God’s peace be with you always,

Father Michael
