Thoughts from the Narrow Way

In striving to provide what I desire for myself, does personal fulfillment seem to elude me nonetheless? According to the Scriptures, Jesus spent His public ministry giving life, healing, and freedom to all those who came to Him…and they were many (Mk 1: 32-34)! When our Lord sought time for Himself it was in order to be in communion with His Father. This ‘alone time’ with the Father refreshed and filled Christ with compassion, with the desire and ability to minister to all in need. Certainly prudence and justice dictate that I carry out my daily responsibilities; however, as I am faithful to my work and vocation in life, countless opportunities present themselves for ministry. The words I speak – are they life-giving? My actions – do they depict my Christian vocation? My thoughts – are they loving and kind, seeking the good of others? If our Lord needed time alone with the Father in order to provide for others, certainly it is necessary that I do likewise. I will surely experience fulfillment to the extent that I minister to those whom God has placed in my life. “If you minister to those who surround you” the Spirit seems to whisper to the soul, “I will certainly minister to you!

May the peace of Christ live in your hearts,

Father Michael
