Options for Funeral Dinners

FUNERAL DINNER ESTIMATES

From HY-VEE (Waterfront 354-7601)

(All estimates serving 100 people

prices as of 1/1/2007 – subject to change)

  1. Meat & cheese tray with buns and condiments.  They figure 1 ½ sandwich per person so this would be 150 sandwiches at $2.50 per person = $375.  Buns cost $2.59 per dozen and you would need approximately 12 dozen x $2.59 = $31.  Therefore, the cost of meat & cheese tray to serve 100 people would be $406.

  1. Ham and scalloped potato dinner. (Meat plus one side dish = $4.99 per person).  This would include buns and dinnerware.  Therefore the cost would be $499 serving 100 persons.

  1. Beef and Mashed potatoes & gravy & vegetable (meat plus two sides = $5.99 per person).  This also includes buns and dinnerware.  Therefore the cost would be $599 for 100 persons.

Currently, Altar & Rosary Society donates the desserts and salads.  We do keep on hand some large cans of vegetables, packets of gravy, and some condiments.  We also have some plates and plastic silverware that can be used.  We normally charge the family $75 for the use of the hall, the drinks (coffee, lemonade or iced tea), and any other items that we furnish.  The funeral home charges the family this $75 through their services, and they give A&R a check for that amount the day of the funeral.

We normally call Hy-Vee at Waterfront and they do an excellent job of delivering the food right after the Mass starts so that they are not disturbing the funeral.  They will come back later to pick up the utensils.  Normally, this is about 1:30 or 2:00 – depending on the time of the Mass and the size of the funeral.

President of A&R is contacted by Lensing and/or the family.  After discussion with the family, she determines what the family wants.  She calls the co-chairs of the Funeral Dinner Committee.  The Funeral Dinner Committee Co-Chairs arrange for workers to help set up, serve, and clean up on the day of the funeral.  President of A&R is responsible for calling the Leaders of the next unscheduled event to call ones in their group to bring desserts and salads.  If anyone is available in the group to help, the Leader should tell them to contact the co-chairs of the Funeral Dinner Committee for an assignment.  If someone needs to drop off at the Hall early and the Hall is not open, they can drop it off at Trish Rohret’s house.
