What is Religous Education and why does my child need to attend?
This question is asked of us quite frequently in the Faith Formation Office. Religious education is an important part of your child's overall education. Passing down our Catholic faith to our children is one of the greatest gifts we can give to them. A strong foundation of faith will serve them well throughout their lives and into adulthood.
While all children are welcome and encouraged to attend Religious Ed classes, it mainly serves those children that do not receive formal Catholic religious education in school. Also, if your child is going to be receiving the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion and do not receive formal religious education in a Catholic school, then they need to attend Religious Ed classes per the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
Attendance Expectations
Regular attendance at religious education classes is required. Religious ed should be thought of as just as important, if not more so, than regular school. While there is no pass/fail, consistency is important for your child to learn to their maximum capabilities.
Behavioral Expectations
Our main rule is BE RESPECTFUL. Children should show respect to all adults, classmates, and to others' personal property at all times. Your child will receive a copy of our behavioral expectations within the first few weeks of class. This will need to be signed by both the child and parent and returned.
Volunteer Opportunities Available
Our religious education program is run by volunteers and help is always needed and appreciated. There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer, either while their child is in class or during the day. Please contact the office if you would like to help. Opportunities include:
* Catechist/Teacher
* Classroom helper
* Substitute teacher or helper
* Family Faith Night helper/planning
* Office help
