St. Basil's Parish was organized by the Most Reverend Francis Patrick Kenrick, Bishop of Philadelphia, in 1836. In 1868, the cornerstone of St. Basil's Church was laid by the Rt. Reverend Bishop O'Hara, D.D. On March 12, 1871 the church was completed far enough to hold the first Mass there by Reverend Xavier A. Kaier, pastor. The church was dedicated on September 7, 1873. In 1877 the parish school and academy began in a wooden building. It's first graduating class was in 1900. The cornerstone for the stone school was laid in 1924 and was completed a year later. The school continued to educate children until 1966. Many additions and renovations to the church took place throughout the years including the renovation in 1975 through 1976, under the direction of Reverend Joseph T. Conboy, pastor and the current renovation which began in 1999 under the pastorate of Reverend Michael B. Harris. The rededication of the church took place on Saturday, June 23, 2001.
