Thank you for your interest in the Music Ministry of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish! The Roman Catholic Church has always affirmed the importance of Sacred Music and we welcome you to this vibrant ministry!  This brochure will briefly describe the various opportunities for you to serve with your musical gifts, or volunteer help with the musical offerings that our parish presents. St Thomas Parish Choir

Families are Welcome!  (12 and over)

This is the main choir at St. Thomas. We sing every Sunday from September to Pentecost (mid- June) at the 10:45 mass (10:15 rehearsal) each Sunday. Our rehearsals are in Room 352, Thursdays at 7:15–pm. Our main task is to inspire and lead the song of the congregation. We also sing a wide variety of music, spirituals, motets, and contemporary selections including large works such as the Vivaldi Gloria and the Schubert German Mass, when we are joined with the St. Thomas orchestra. The St. Thomas Orchestra

The St. Thomas orchestra is open to all who play an orchestral instrument well. We play for Christmas, Holy week, Pentecost and other Solemnities and Feasts. We join with the Parish Choir during masses and occasional concerts, to present special music, choral and orchestral works from the repertoire, and accompany the song of the congregation. We especially welcome highschoolers!

The Cantor Ministry

We are always looking for good cantors to sing for liturgies throughout the year. Cantors do not need to be professional musicians, but should possess a clear voice with good diction, have music reading skills and know the basic flow of the liturgy. Cantors also sing for weddings and funerals when they are remunerated. Most cantors sing on a regular schedule, but flexibility is certainly a possibility. Contact, Lucia Campbell at 761-8606 x 2802

St Thomas Ensembles

There are presently five music ensembles at St. Thomas that rotate offering music for the 12:30 Sunday mass. Music for these masses is more contemporary and includes guitars, percussion, piano and other instruments. Ensembles offer music for one 12:30 mass a month.We are presently looking for guitarists and pianists as well as cantors or singers who may want to be cantors. Instrumentalists/ Accompanists/Volunteers

We are always looking for instrumentalists who wish to contribute in any way that they feel will be of benefit. This might include, accompanying one of the choirs, being a substitute organist for masses, or helping as a volunteer. Pianists, guitarists, and other instruments are welcome!

The St. Thomas Schola

The St. Thomas Schola is a smaller group of singers that offers more challenging repertoire at masses where the parish choir does not sing. At present we feature two, on a part, though with more members that may change. Members are typically interested in singing more challenging repertoire, such as the great wealth of Renaissance polyphony.Conctat Lucia Campbell at 761- 8606 x 2808.

The St. Thomas Youth String Ensemble

This fun ensemble is taught and led by violinist Paula Elliot. The ensemble class meets after school on Tuesdays in the school music room at 2:30 during the school year. Children and young people are taught to learn musical development along with the learning of a string instrument. The ensemble plays once a month at mass. This is a great way to introduce your child to music making in a very enjoyable way! Please call the church office and ask the secretary to send you an information and registration packet.
