St. Thomas provides religious education for children who attend public school, age 4 through grade 12. Our aim is to provide programs that encompass the four aspects of Christian Education: Word, Worship, Service and Community. Many people are needed to help make this important ministry a success. Listed below are areas of need; to volunteer, please contact Director of Religious Education at 761-8606.

Catechist: A person who loves children and teens and would like to teach and share the faith with one of the following age levels: 4-5 year olds, 1-7th graders. Catechist formation is provided, and is an expected part of this ministry. Classes are held Monday afternoons and evenings.

Catechist Assistant: A person to help the catechist in the classroom each week. This person does not need to prepare lessons or teach, unless the catechist is ill, in which case he/she acts as the substitute. Occasionally, we need aides to assist an individual child during class.

Catechist Substitute: A person to fill in when a catechist has to be absent. You will not be called at the last minute, but will have time to prepare.

Office Monitors: Volunteers to monitor the front doors during class using the in-office security system.

One Time Per Year Commitment: These are: Christmas Program; Bread-baking/Banner-Making Workshop for children celebrating First Communion, and cookie baking.

Children’s Catechumenate(RCIC): If you have a child between the ages of 7 and 14 who has not been baptized or received First Communion, contact Monica Pope at 761-8606. Children participate in a 5 month program similar to RCIA and are welcomed into the church at the Easter Vigil.
