Writing, writing, writing, that is all we seem to do. The seventh graders are completing many writing projects. All of the Young Authors’ stories should be in their third or final drafts. The goals of this assignment have been to learn how to complete a story in first or third person point of view, write in past or present tense, and follow the plot elements of a short story. This, however, has not been our only area of writing. Our literature focus has also included a written component. We have been introduced to the writings of Edgar Allan Poe with the short story “The Cask of Amontillado.” The students have come to recognize Poe’s use of irony as he weaves his tale of revenge. Once again the students have identified the elements of plot as they have summarized the main ideas of each conflict. They have taken this information and presented the story line using written summaries that coincide with artistic symbols to create very unique book reports. The focus in science has been about the endocrine and reproductive systems. What interesting classroom conversations, and you can only imagine the questions! All in all, the students have really worked hard and are grasping the concepts. Lastly, in religion we have been reflecting about the things we need to do to show how we respect life. This has flowed perfectly into the start of our preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The students have discovered the Holy Spirit is called by many names, but whatever the name, He will be there to guide us when we most need Him. Please, let us join together to help our students grow in their faith as they prepare to receive this life-changing Sacrament. God bless you all.
