The month of May held 3 field trips !
First we traveled to the Indiana Dunes-West Beach with the 7th graders. While we hiked the dunes, we learned how Lake Michigan was formed by a glacier ! That is a BIGGGGG puddle! We went on a beach scavenger hunt with the help of our chaperones. Then we set out a sheet and enjoyed our lunch on the sand (we did eat our "SAND-wiches"). Later , we received a bucket and shovel and started digging in the sand . There many castles and waterways to work with . It was a wonderful day ...sun...sand and seventh graders too !
The following week, we again hopped on the CTA/PACE bus to the Beverly Bank to visit our Junior Achievement leader,Mrs. Quarello. Mrs. Q. took us to the safe, safety deposit boxes (which can fit a kindergartner!),went behind the teller window and "worked" the drive-up ! One of the highlights was the coin counting machine and the magic money machine. The magic money machine can tell different bills apart and count them when they are all mixed up ! Before we knew it, it was time to get back on the bus , back to school. Mrs. Q certainly showed us the money !
To end the school year, the entire school walked to Kennedy Park for Track & Field day. Our 6th grade prayer partners walked with us as we had an "Olympic"-type day . There was lots of running, jumping, and throwing. We were treated to lunch-McDonald's hamburgers, chips, drinks and popscicles. After lunch we played at the park and used sidewalk chalk to draw our own town. Eighth graders walked back to school with us -it was an eventful day !
