Eagle Scout Project beautifies and preserves Holy Name cemetery.

The beautification and preservation of the cemetery was completed do to the dedication and motivation of Sam Lewis, son of Christopher and Rebecca Lewis, at age 13. Sam had many hurdles to overcome in the planning, financing and building of the project.  He and his mother did the basic design of the project. Sam had to present his proposal to Holy Name’s parish council and get approval from his scouting council before proceeding. Sam spent his weekend’s fundraising at Holy Name and home improvement stores in the area to get the funds to pay for material needed. Sam and his fellow scouts spent many hours preparing the ground, digging holes for the posts and installing the fencing.  Sam also did all the sign lettering. Sam researched the plants used in the landscaping checking best price and best perennial for site. In addition to installation of the fencing and entrance Sam’s family and friends cleaned and realigned the headstones. Sam also mapped all the plots so families will know where their loved ones are buried. He designed and printed brochures that are available in mailboxes at entrance to cemetery, along with prayer cards.  Holy Name can be proud of the efforts of this young man for his part in the preservation of parish history and parish grounds. Sam is a member of Scout Troop 29 from Middletown Sportsman club and his scout leader is Ken Gairland.
